EECA’s proposals for inclusion in a political declaration on UHC
The United Nations High Level Meeting (HLM) on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in 2023 provides countries and all stakeholders with an opportunity not only to reaffirm UHC’s commitment, but also to take concrete action to build sustainable and equitable health systems. Some progress has been made since the 2019 High Level Meeting on UHC and the political Declaration, but more than half of the world’s population still lacks access to basic health services. services. The situation was exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the humanitarian crisis due to military operations in the EECA region.
Following the publication of the Zero Draft Political Declaration, organizations in the EECA region formulated the following proposals aimed at improving both the civil society engagement process and the text of the Political Declaration itself
Unfortunately, the timeline between the publication of the draft and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd hearings of the declaration is really tight to ensure the inclusive process of communication with non-English speaking representatives of the NGOs and CSOs.
Health Advocacy Coalition was able to organise the online process of gathering comments and developing the position of some CSOs in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
As the third reading of the draft of the political declaration on Universal Health Coverage is taking place in the United Nations soon, we would like to share with you the position of the EECA UHC communication platform regarding the draft political declaration on UHC.
One of the asks from our side is to make sure that for the next hearings the timeline is extended to really ensure the meaningful participation of non-english speaking CS representatives.
